Sometimes when visiting a new city, the best way to get a feel for it is to simply to let yourself get a little bit lost. One of the most delightful consequences of this is accidentally stumbling upon a hidden gem - somewhere off the beaten tourist track that you know you’ll hold in your heart forever every time you remember your trip.
Luckily, Bath is a city of many winding streets, tiny pubs and hidden secrets. We’re sure you’ll discover your own, but here are three of our favourites:
Sitting quietly across the road from its glamorous big sister Thermae Bath Spa sits the beautiful understated Cross Bath. Hidden in plain sight, in view of busy Stall Street, The Cross Bath is a grade one listed treasure, recognised as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. What many people don’t know is that you can hire the Cross Bath for exclusive use for up to 12 people to enjoy the naturally warm mineral rich waters/ It is especially magical by night. Love books? Look no further. Toppings is your original grand yet quirky independent bookshop, with handcrafted bookcases (complete with wooden ladders), and shelves upon shelves of glorious books, including first editions and signed copies. Toppings hold regular author events and talks, so you could even meet your literary hero. Visit the website www.toppingbooks.co.uk
An intimate venue with a formidable variety of events, the Chapel Arts centre is the perfect place to go day and night for food, music, dance, film - you name it, they’ll have the entertainment. Speaking of variety, this month they have everything from Canadian acoustic guitar to a Four Seasons tribute band to modern folk! Visit the website www.chapelarts.org
